We asked students from Africa why they chose Russia and our university. Here are the answers of future doctors, engineers and specialists in every field.
Petera Bernard Mosa
Faculty of Philology, PhD student, 3rd year
Madagascar
Scholarships usually take us to neighboring countries — Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt. But I deliberately put Russia first. I dreamed of going far away, to a country with a completely different culture. For me, Russia is exactly that — another world. It is not just the famous snow and frost, but a vast territory, many peoples, a language and an entire civilization.
Jean-Pierre Sishugi
Academy of Engineering, 2nd year
DR Congo
I have dreamed of an international career since I was a child. Russia has a very strong engineering education, and RUDN bears the name of our hero, Patrice Lumumba. Studying here is not just classes — it is a brotherhood. The university has an atmosphere of equality and friendship between peoples.
Marie Alice Benishyiza Uwera
Institute of Medicine
Rwanda
Russia has rich medical traditions, a strong foundation, discipline and a focus on practice. I am sure all this will help me become the dentist I dream of being. And RUDN brings the whole world together in one place. Here I, a student from Rwanda, get to know different cultures and step beyond the world I am used to.
Anbese Tariku Bedaso
Faculty of Science, master’s student, 1st year
Ethiopia
The Russian school of mathematics has produced world-class scientists. Here they teach solid theory and a rigorous approach to problems — exactly what I need. And a RUDN degree is valued by employers and universities around the world.
Chinyama Kazombo
Institute of Medicine, 5th year
Zambia
I have loved Russian literature since childhood, especially Dostoevsky. I wanted to see the country that gave the world such profound books and to get my education here. I even went to Optina Pustyn to learn more about the writer’s life. I chose RUDN because people come here to study from all over the world. Here you can not only become a doctor but also learn friendship without borders. In the future, I dream of becoming a neurosurgeon.
